Where should you not use tape?
In general, taping should not be applies to areas that are damaged, irritated, or medically contraindicated. This includes:
- Open wound, fresh injuries, or unhealed scars
- Skin infections, rashes, eczema, or fungal infections
- Severely irritated or burned skin (e.g. sunburn)
- Areas that are already inflamed or showing allergenic reactions
- Skin areas with significant swelling of unknown origin
- Varicose veins or known vascular conditions, unless medically cleared
- Tumor areas or skin over known growths
- Directly over large hematomas, especially if pressured sensitivity is present
- Areas with impaired sensation where the user lacks normal skin perception
- Injured structures already under tension without therapeutic assessment
- On the neck over the main carotid artery, especially with strong tension
- In case of known adhesive allergies, particularly to acrylic adhesion
In addition the following applies:
- During pregnancy, with lymphatic disorders, or with heart conditions, taping should always be discussed with a therapist or physician beforehand
- Kinesiology tape does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment
