Non-sterile compresses for wound care
Non-sterile gauze compresses are an essential part of any well-equipped wound care kit. They are primarily used for ointment dressings but are also suitable for light, superficial abrasions or small cuts.

For an ointment dressing, the ointment is applied thickly to the affected area. The gauze compress is then moistened and placed over the oinment. Finally, the area is wrapped with a bandage to secure the compress. Adhesive bandages can be used for fixation.
Non-sterile gauze compresses can also be used for superficial wounds such as abrasions or minor cuts. They are also useful for quick cleansing of the skin, for example in combination with a cleansing spray.
The renowned medical product manufacturer Urgo® uses 100% cotton for its non-sterile gauze compresses.
