TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), or more commonly knows as electrotherapy, is a proven technology for supporting well-being during pain, completely drug-free and in a natural way. The gentle stimulation can help loosen tight muscles and promote a feeling of relief and relaxation, which in turn may reduce pain. Regular use can also support the body's natural regeneration processes and contribute to an overall sense of balance.
The Bluetens® App
The app offers three different modes, allowing you to tailor each session to your individual needs. Simple, intuitive and perfectly adapted to your needs:
Single Session: Select your program based on your goal, whether you want to activate a muscle group, support relaxation or enhance your physical performance.
Basic Treatment: Here you'll find a wide range of applications developed by medical professionals to support you with various discomforts and everyday strains, from tense backs to overworked joints.
Premium Mode: This mode offers personalized training programs and direct support from Bluetens® physiotherapists. They help you analyze your application, provide tailored recommendations and guide you towards safe, targeted training or recovery phases.
From neck to foot, there's a program for the entire body. Simply apply the electrodes, choose a program and enjoy the soothing stimulation.
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) works with gentle electrical impulses that act on the nerves through the skin. It primarily stimulates sensory nerve fibres. That fibers transmit information toward the brain. These impulses can influence the perception of pain and support your well-being when dealing with muscular tension.
EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) on the other hand, specifically mimics the natural process of muscle contraction. The electrical impulses are delivered via electrodes directly to the motor nerve fibers, which control the muscles. This creates an artificial muscle contraction that closely resembles a natural contraction initiated by the brain.
In short:
- TENS = focuses on nerves and pain perception
- EMS = focuses on muscles and muscle activation
TENS and EMS have been well-known and established in physiotherapy for many yeas. Therapists and physicians often use them as complementary treatments, for example to help with muscular tension.
The Bluetens® Classic 2 is officially certified as a Class IIa medical device, meaning it meets specific quality and safety standards.
The Bluetens® Duo Sport 2, on the other hand, is designed as a sport and activation device, primarily used for training, muscle activation and performance support.
Since EMS acts directly on the motor nerves or the muscle's motor end plate, it can trigger very targeted muscle contractions, making it a meaningful addtion to your training. However, results are always individual.
EMS does not replace regular training, but it can support it and make it more effective.
For healthy individuals in recreational or fitness settings, the following general guidelines are useful:
Muscle building / performance programs: approx. 2-3 sessions per week per muscle group
Light activation / recovery: gentle programs can typically be used more frequently
Important: Start with lower intensity and reduced frequency, then gradually increase over time. Follow the recommendations in the user manual, and if in doubt, ask a physiotherapist or doctor to help you create a suitable plan.
You can use TENS/EMS devices very flexibly, for example,
- at home, to relax after a long day at work
- in the office, where Bluetens® devices can be worn discreetly without anyone noticing
- on the go or while traveling
The electrodes are reusable and depending on how well you care for them, you can use them around 20-30 times.
You should replace them when they no longer stick well, the surface feels dry, dirty or uneven, or when the stimulation is no longer consistent.
With the Bluetens® Duo Sport 2, one hour of charging provides approx. 50 sessions, depending on the program and duration.
With the Bluetens® Classic 2, one hour of charging usually corresponds to about one month of use with normal application frequency.
Both devices have a built-in USB-rechargeable battery and can be conveniently charged with any USB charger.
