Pillows
To ensure that the patient feels comfortable on the couch, positioning pillows are an optimal support during the treatment. Positioning cushions enable the patient to adopt a more relaxed lying position during treatment and help to prevent secondary damage such as pressure ulcers, joint stiffness or thromboses during longer sessions in a lying position. No matter what treatment goal you are pursuing as a therapist, positioning pillows can make everyday therapy easier and provide you and your patient with the best possible support during treatment. They are specially shaped pillows, rolls or otherwise formed cushions that allow the therapist to treat the patient comfortably and the patient to be in a comfortable position while lying down.
Here we explain what types of positioning pillows there are, when you can use them and why they are particularly suitable for everyday therapy.
Types of positioning pillows
Pillows come in many shapes, including positioning rolls, half rolls, positioning cubes and more. Depending on the area of application and therapy, you can use the differently shaped positioning pads. A carefully selected positioning pillow can be crucial to enable a successful therapy or rehabilitation while avoiding injury or pain.
In our shop you will find:
Positioning roll
Positioning rolls are often used to relieve or ideally position parts of the body such as the knees and neck.
Half roll
Half rolls are particularly suitable for supportive positioning of knee joints or the heel, for stabilising the legs and are suitable for positioning the head, neck and torso. Half rolls have a flat underside to prevent the roll from slipping during treatment.
Positioning cubes
Positioning cubes are used to elevate parts of the body such as the legs. The lumbar spine and intervertebral discs can be relieved by the raised position, as the pressure can be reduced by the raised legs. Positioning cubes are also particularly suitable for a stepped position.
When should I buy a positioning pillow?
The possible uses of positioning pillows are manifold. They are particularly suitable for positioning limbs, for relaxing tissue structures such as muscles, fasciae, tendons, ligaments and joint capsules of the lower extremity and the back. Furthermore, positioning cushions are also valuable aids in corrective gymnastics and general rehabilitation. With the help of positioning cushions, affected body parts can be placed higher and are thus more easily accessible for the therapist. Furthermore, the use of suitable support cushions can relieve and stabilise painful parts of the patient's body. They can also prevent too much pressure from being exerted on a part of the skin and tissue and consequently the development of a decubitus (pressure ulcer). Positioning pillows are therefore ideal for positioning limbs and preventing pain and pressure points caused by positioning. They are available in different sizes, shapes (rolls, cubes) and hardnesses and are indispensable in rehabilitation and therapy. Many forms of treatment are only effective and efficient through the use of positioning aids.
