How do the scents of essential oils affect our senses?
Fragrances and smells have a strong influence on our emotions and our well-being. We automatically associate some scents with positive memories, which are then individual associations. However, many people react similarly to some scents, for example:
- Citrus scents have a refreshing, invigorating and mood-lifting effect
- Floral scents such as rose or patchouli have an aphrodisiac effect
- Lavender, chamomile or lemon balm have a relaxing effect
If you have now found the right oil for you, one question remains:
How do I heat the massage oil correctly?
To ensure that the oil is at the right temperature before you apply it to the client's or patient's skin, you should warm the oil up a little beforehand. If you only need a small amount of oil, it is sufficient to pour the oil into one hand beforehand and then rub it together horizontally with the other hand. For larger quantities of massage oil, massage oil warmers, such as water baths, are available from specialist retailers. These keep the oil at the desired temperature throughout the day. To keep the oil warm, teapots or hot plates are also suitable; simply place the oil in a suitable container. This will keep it warm for a long time.
Under no circumstances should you heat the massage oil in the microwave, as it quickly becomes too hot and valuable ingredients can be lost.
