The use of the CryoCompression by K-Active® after a total hip replacement

If pain and discomfort caused by wear and tear in the hip joint can no longer be reduced or avoided by conservative treatment, then a total hip replacement must be undertaken. The defective joint is completely replaced by a hip prosthesis. This patient report shows, how the CryoCompression can support the healing after surgery.

Through research, application and study, medical possibilities and skills have improved immensely over the years. Nevertheless, a surgery of this scale puts a considerable strain on the body. Both the cut and the insertion of the endoprosthesis cause local injuries to vessels and structures. Subsequent bleeding (= hematoma) and swelling are not uncommon, but rather the rule. In addition, the body develops inflammation, which is necessary for healing.

To relieve the symptoms of inflammation – not the inflammation itself! – the so-called cold compression can be used. The application of cold and the pulsating compression modify the inflammation processes. Pain is relieved, the range of motion is significantly improved and the healing time is accelerated.

Case study: Use of the CryoCompression by K-Active® after a total hip replacement

State and condition after a total hip replacement: hematoma and swelling in the entire area of the hip and thigh

Verletzung an der Hüfte

Due to the considerable swelling with the corresponding hematoma in the area of the hip, but also the thigh, two cuffs were used. These were used 3 to 4 times a day for about 20 to 30 minutes each.

A good distribution of the hematoma and the corresponding yellowish discoloration could already be observed on the second day of application. These are signs of rapid breakdown of the hematoma.

Blutunterlaufener Oberschenkel

On the third day of application, the further reduction of the hematoma laterally (outside) and medially (inside), even as far as the knee region, could be determined.

Summary

The CryoCompression by K-Active® is an apparatus for modifying inflammatory symptoms. Hematomas and swellings can be reduced and the range of motion improved at an early stage.
If these processes can be optimized, then the body does not have to exhaust its pain potential. The medication intake, which is often stressful for the body, can be reduced or even stopped.
