Story of the K-Active Taping method
In the 80s, the first Kinesiology Tape was developed by the Japanese company Nitto Denko Corp. in cooperation with a Japanese chiropractor Kenzo Kase and was applied for this specific taping method “ Kinesiology Taping” also known as “Kinesio-Taping”. The application techniques were developed with the kinesiolocical tests in mind and were also partially responsible for the naming of the material and therapy method.
The goal by applying the tape was to support the body’s own Regulation- and Self-healing mechanisms to optimize the therapy results. It is very important for this method to first conduct a holistic assessment. K-Active substantially refined that assessment and attempts by utilizing it to collect as much information as possible to develop a theoretical concept. The special aspect of this concept is to have the body confirm (to you) the “possible collected causes”.
The therapist transmits a sensory testing stimulus by applying the hand to symbolize the changes with (the) tape.
The key points as well as the type of application (of the tape) can be defined by the body’s response as positive perceived stimuli. And this approach is superior to the standardized type of application used by doctors or therapists – because only the body knows itself and only the body can heal itself.
Applications and fields of application
Decades of therapeutic experience have shown that K-Active Taping can be successfully applied in prophylaxis, all pain problems, postoperative and post-traumatic conditions. The various areas include orthopaedics, sports physiotherapy, lymphology, neurology, internal medicine, gynaecology, obstetrics and paediatrics.
The following examples show areas of application in which the tapes are used in daily work, according to doctors and therapists:
Pain, movement restrictions, functional dysfunctions, sports injuries, arthrosis, spinal/intervertebral disc problems, muscle tension, sciatica, ISG problems, postural weakness, headaches, migraines, epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, lymphoedema, paralysis, polyneuropathy, menstrual cramps, involution and postnatal care, urinary incontinence, and much more.
Comfort and duration
Decades of therapeutic experience have shown that the K-Active Tape is not perceived as disturbing after only a few minutes due to the material properties and the correct application. Activities of daily life such as work, sport and leisure time are not restricted by the tape, but rather supported. Due to the water-repellent material, it is possible to shower or bathe without any problems, without having to change the system.
The main effect of K-Active Taping is expected in the first three to five days after application. Positive effects with regard to the symptoms after prolonged use are also very frequently observed by medical personnel. Allergic reactions are only rarely registered and are often caused by previous or current medication intake or by increased alcohol and nicotine consumption. In these cases, the skin fulfils its additional function as an “excretory organ of toxins” and reacts accordingly more sensitively to the tape.
Incorrect application techniques can also lead to negative reactions of the body. For this reason, the tape site should be laid out by a trained medical specialist or the patient or athlete should have been admitted.
For particularly sensitive skin, the products K-Active Tape Gentle and Elite were developed on the basis of STRATAGEL® adhesive technology. This adhesive innovation is hyperallergenic and dissolves in itself when removed. This hardly removes any skin particles.
For slightly stronger mechanical effects during taping you can use the K-Active Tape Sport.
